Frederick DeWolfe MAT ’63

Fred DeWolfe MAT ’63, of cardiac arrest following brain tumor surgery, December 8, 1997, in Portland. He was a prolific author and photographer who published numerous articles and lectured on local history and architecture. His undergraduate degree was from Lewis & Clark College, Portland, and he also held a master’s degree from the University of Portland. After earning the master’s at , he joined the faculty of Portland Community College as a history professor, then moved to Clackamas Community College in Oregon City in 1967. He retired from teaching in 1990. He was the author or illustrator of five books about Portland history, one of the most notable being Heritage Lost: Two Grand Portland Houses through the Lens of Minor White, published in 1995 by the Oregon Historical Society and designed by John Laursen ’67. His most recent work, John : Collected Stories and Sketches, was released in 1997, and he was honored by the Oregon Cultural Heritage Foundation for his research on . Survivors include his wife; two sons; two half-brothers; and a grandson.
